Mont Eco Game Reserve is a 6 500 ha (16 000 acres) farm in the Klein Karoo in the Western Cape that has historic remnants, Bushman paintings, and fossils, dating back thousands of years, spread over this vast landscape.

The reserve falls within the Cape Floral Kingdom, encompassing three significant biomes: Nama Karoo, Succulent Karoo, and Fynbos.

Caring custodians have restored the reserve to pristine fynbos and succulent vegetation and now boast an impressive diversity of succulent plant species.

In late 2015, under new ownership, work commenced on the mammoth task of restoring the farm to its natural state.

Iconic Karoo species such as Brown Hyena, Aardvark, Oryx, and Klipspringer occur naturally in this unique landscape, and herds of Eland, Springbok, Wildebeest, and Giraffe roam the parched plains of the “Klein Karoo” as they did centuries ago.

After thorough research into the animal species that previously inhabited this region, the African Big Five – Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, and Buffalo have successfully been reintroduced to Mont Eco Game Reserve.

This unique project now has an opportunity to showcase the distinctive landscape and ecosystem as nature intended it to be, with the mountains, rivers, plains, and vegetation coming back to life.

The night skies offer an alternative to tech-powered entertainment with a nightly show of spectacular stargazing and astrophotography opportunities.

Each 80 M2 suite stands alone and offers an intimate place to immerse yourself in the surroundings and the creative energy of the Klein Karoo.

At Mont Eco Game Reserve, you don’t have to share your private space and captivating Klein Karoo landscapes with anyone.

Optical fibre Wi-Fi is standard in every suite and a ceiling fan circulates the crisp Karoo air at night.

The African Khoi San bath lies under a basket weave dome and is an invitation to an indulgent, luxurious soak before bed.

Morning calls for an invigorating session in the spacious walk-in shower.

Savour a quiet moment on the private deck overlooking the course of a seasonal river, observing birds and the little creatures rustling around in the undergrowth during the heat of the day.

Safari Activities at Mont Eco Lodge:

Each game drive brings a new experience and opportunity as the rangers traverse the roads through the bush, valleys, and mountains of the Klein Karoo looking for the elusive leopard.

Visit ancient riverbeds as they wind through a fringe of Acacia trees lining a wooded wonderland in the shadow of the giant cliffs of the Langeberg Mountain range.

Our Safari Guide will share their deep understanding of this unique area and impart their knowledge of the symbiotic relationships that exist between the fauna and flora of the Klein Karoo.

Game drives are conducted twice a day depending on the season, early morning as the sun slowly starts to light up the trees and the mountains, and then again just before the sun dips on the horizon before sunset.
